Today Amelia and me, we take a nice walk at Atchison’s riverside overlooking the Missouri River and peak in its history.
We go to the Riverside Park with its Veterans Memorial Park and Independence Park.
We see the Atchison Veterans Memorial Marker, the Atchison Veterans Memorial Bench and of course, the Atchison Veterans Memorial with its six pillars. Each pillar has a cut stone base. Inset into that base, there is a grey marble column. A brass plate with six stars is inset into the middle of the column, and the insignia of one the branches – Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard or National Guard is inset into the top of the column. Each column has a two tiered light.
