And again an awesome weekend trip awaits me. Today we are flying to Santa Maria Public Airport.
“The airport was built by the United States Army during World War II, known as Santa Maria Army Air Field. Its primary mission was to provide training for B-24 bomber pilots, however flight training was abandoned by December 1942. The field fell into a state of disuse until the arrival of the Lockheed P-38 twin engine fighter in September 1943. ” (see Wikipedia)
Of course, we visit also “The West’s Best BBQ Town” and see if the Sunset magazine is right to call it like this – and actually it is …. miam …
By the way, did you know? – According to a 1994 article in the Santa Maria Times, Santa Maria’s official mascots are the Two Toes, alien creatures from the planet Plu-Toe who have come to Earth to remind kids to “Work Toe-gether for a Better Toe-morrow”
